Do you design and build mobile apps in Australia?
Yes. ProductByDesign is an Australian studio that designs and builds iOS and Android apps and websites for small and medium businesses, working with clients across Australia.
What design and development services do you offer?
We offer end-to-end design and development for mobile apps, websites, web applications and customer portals. We start with discovery, customer research and journey mapping, then move through user flows, wireframes, prototypes and UI design. Our development team takes the approved design through build, integration, testing and launch. We can also support your product after launch with updates, improvements and new features.
How long does it take to build a website?
A Starter or Business website usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. An eCommerce or booking website usually takes 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the number of products or services, integrations and how quickly content is ready.
Should I choose a website or a mobile app?
If people mainly need to find your business, learn about your services, contact you, make a booking or buy online, a website is usually the best place to start. A mobile app may be better if customers or staff need to sign in, manage information, receive notifications, earn rewards, track orders or use it regularly. Not sure what you need?
Are domain names, hosting and business email included?
No. Domain registration, website hosting and business email are paid separately by you, so the accounts remain in your name and under your control. We’ll help you choose the right services and take care of the setup. Any other ongoing costs, such as Shopify, booking software or paid services, will also be explained upfront.
Is the online estimate a quote?
No. The estimator gives an indicative range based on typical projects. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free scoping call, before any work starts.
How quickly can you build a prototype?
For a smaller app, we can typically deliver a clickable prototype in two weeks. More complex apps take longer. Once we understand the features you need, we’ll give you a clear timeline and quote before we start.
Why fixed prices instead of hourly?
Small businesses need to know what they're spending. We agree the scope and price in writing, and any change goes through a short change request with its own price before we do the work.
How do payments work?
We split project payments into three simple milestones: 30% to start the project, 40% once the design is approved, and 30% when the project is completed and ready to launch. This means your payments are tied to clear progress throughout the project.
Do I own my website or app?
Yes. Once the final invoice is paid, the website, code, designs and app store listings are yours. We set everything up under your accounts from day one.
Can you work with my existing website or systems?
Usually. We regularly connect to Shopify, Square, Xero, MYOB, HubSpot and Google Workspace. We'll check your setup on the scoping call.

ProductByDesign is a Melbourne-based design and development studio. We build web and mobile apps for small and medium businesses across Australia.
Our team comes from large-scale digital transformation work, designing systems used by thousands of people every day. We saw that small businesses rarely get that level of care. They get templates that don't fit, or quotes that don't make sense.
So we built a studio around three ideas. Design comes first, because an app nobody enjoys using is money wasted. Prices are fixed, because small businesses plan around cash flow. And we stay around after launch, because a good app keeps improving.
